Present Yourself

hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh image via glamour.com

Even though Christmas has passed, many of us still have holiday parties to attend, family festivities to partake in, or some romantic dates to show up to... In any case, keep the gift-giving theme going and make yourself the present with a whimsical bow headband from ban.do - the friends and fam will find you both adorable and impossibly stylish!

Just click on the pics to be guided straight to their page in the online shop!

These statement bows range in price from $50 to $165 - a pretty penny, another option: go to your local craft store and pick up a nice piece of fat, sikly ribbon in your choice of color/pattern, tie a big, bouncy bow around your head and turn it so that the bow is a little off-center... A homemade gift-wrapping element for your holiday ensemble!

Not a headband person? Incorporate this girly bow theme in another part of your outfit:

This neatly-tied coat from Forever 21 is completely cute and under $40 ... cheap and chic! ..and your boyfriend won't be able to resist unwrapping you! ;)

Hoping to go for something a little more subtle? Bows on your hands adds a little touch of femininity to your ever-working upper extremities!

This bow ring from Free People is a cool update on the old tie-a-string-on-your-finger trick... but don't assume that means you can only wear it when you have something important to remember!

These 'bows at your wrists gloves' in sheepskin and this pair of woolen 'bow cuffed gloves', both by Echo, combine the toughness of a high-cut animal skin or punk-ish vibes of a black-and-white striped hand cover with the sweetness of girlie bows attached at the bottom openings.

For the Kids

hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh image via Vogue, January 2007

Because so many of us have little hippie luxers in our lives, I decided it was time to do a little spotlight on some of my favorite kid stuff from my newly-discovered go-to store for childrens' toys, clothing and accessories, (as well as cute cards, housewares, candles and generally adorable knick-knacks you didn't know you had to have until you found them!) - Pink Olive Boutique!

See something you like below? Just click on the photo to be escorted directly to the sale page of your desired item!

First up: These fantastical porcelain nightlights are hand-painted in soothing pastels and provide just enough light to put the kids to sleep while guarding against monsters under the bed, creatures in the closet, and any other dark-dwelling demons that may cause nightmares! Depicting fairy activities, or just a simply elegant cottage, these whimsical little creations will add a touch of imagination to any bedroom!

BONUS: When the cottage gets switched on, little white rabbits can be seen peeking out of the windows, keeping a watchful eye on any sleeping children nearby.

Speaking of fairies, nothing marks a child's ascension from infancy than the loss of their baby teeth, so why not give a gift that will help them celebrate that transition in the form of a cozy tooth pillow - complete with a little pocket in the back to make the tooth/money exchange by the Tooth Fairy go seamlessly!

Knitting isn't just for pillows and sweaters anymore, as these deliciously adorable yarn-grown snack incarnations prove. A fun and snuggly alternative to children's plastic play foods, these little treats are both ironic and aesthetically pleasing at the same time, making them a perfect gift for kids or satirically-inclined adults alike! BONUS: The little fruits are actually knit rattles and come in a vegetable version, while the cookies and savory New York City street-inspired snacks are all 100% hand-knit and come in a picnic-evoking gingham covered box (pictured) ... yum!

Last, but perhaps first in my heart, is this completely darling and eco-friendly elephant purse! Not only is this little pouch totally endearing and sweetly innocent-looking, but it's also partly made with recycled fabrics and each piece is one-of-a-kind. Perhaps I'm a little biased because I have a personal obsession with elephants, but if the strap on this little guy were a little longer and he came in leather, I would definitely already be toting my cell phone, wallet, and other daily essentials around town in one!

While we're talking about gifts, I just wanted to let you all know that I am making the conscious decision to forgo wrapping paper this year - it's simply an overindulgent use of the planet's resources, in my opinion, but I don't want to get preachy! Instead, I will be re-using bags I got when purchasing my gifts, recycling newspaper and magazine pages to act as gift-wrap, giving reusable fabric bags with presents inside, and I'm even contemplating going out and picking up a couple dozen of these:

Reusable fabric gift-wrappers - each one comes with a message: Give Wisdom, Give Love, or Give Luck (available in other colors and styles)! Don't have time to order these pretty little fabric squares before your holiday gift exchange? Try going to your local fabric store and buying a few yards of fabric, or pick up some large, inexpensive scarfs - now your gifts will be wrapped in a gift, genius!

We Love Deez Hos

Having just purchased a pair of these babies, I figured I should share my new legwear obsession with all my faithful readers: vertical striped tights! Not only are they impossibly chic, but the lengthwise lines will make your legs look long and lean - yay!

via polyvore.com

It seems that the best option is classic black and white for this striped hosiery ... but if you're brave play with color! Just make sure to keep the rest of your outfit simple - think Parisian chic, and avoid yellow or orange with black...it's never stylish to be a bumble bee or a confused holiday.

Candy-Coated Kicks

Alright, so I may be about 20 years late on the love for Nike Dunks, but recently I have been walking by too many stores displaying these confectionary kicks in the window, and they are triggering a real craving in my shoe sweet tooth!

Little Red Riding HOOD!

No longer just for basketball players and hanging on telephone lines, Nike Dunks will look fly on anyone willing to pair them with some skinny jeans, or tights and a mini skirt, a little sarcasm, and a lot of confidence. Don't take yourself too seriously and you'll grab the attention of any passersby - and not because you look like a preppy poser.

Be a Kosher Christian...

Comedienne turned jewelry designer Carlen Altman brings some chutspa to traditionally Christian prayer beads.

JEWISH ROSARIES

Does this not strike you as a genius concept? Being a child with parents of different faiths, I especially love this mix of religious iconography! Though Altman markets her pieces primarily to Jews, she says the jewelry is really for anyone - personally, I like the mixed message the wearer can send to make any onlookers a little curious.

The cheeky JEWelry is available in a few different styles:

"Peace Party" is Altman's newer collection, it's a light and very affordable line of plastic Jewish rosaries with a Star of David in place of the standard cross (there is even one that glows in the dark!) - and at $15, even an Atheist can't resist!

While the Classic Collection is a little more high-end (with a higher price to match - $98), made of materials including sterling silver, bronze and glass - and check out the details in the pendants!

As if the jewelry isn't cool enough, Altman sends her Jewish accessory love in awesome pouches, perfect for storing change or your money and ID for a low-maintenance night out!

Chai five Carlen!

Affordable Bliss for a Blustery Day

With the wintery days just around the corner, my visit to the Echo showroom came at the perfect time! Though I was salivating over practically everything from their clothes, to gloves, to their claim-to-fame scarves, I have managed to pick a few of my favorite pieces to highlight for all of my readers:
tribal graphic muffler
Hop on the tribal trend for winter with Echo's Tribal Graphic Muffler ($48)! It comes in 3 more colors, and for under 50 bucks, it's a chic way to accessorize for cold weather on the cheap!

textured rib gloves
Casual meets elegant in Echo's Textured Rib Gloves ($30) - soft, warm, and a touch of old Hollywood glamour!

Animal prints are everywhere this season, and a scarf can be a great way to get the look without completely turning into a jungle animal. I myself am pretty weary about letting leopard and zebra fabrics into my wardrobe, but with Echo's Animal Fringe Muffler ($38) I can get the perfect touch of fur-like flair.

animal fringed muffler
The Echo Infinity Neck Ring ($35) is a genius reinvention of the scarf! It's the add-on that can bring any casual ensemble up to the next level, and it comes in tons of other colors and patterns!

Though they're known for their accessories, Echo surprised me with some amazing ready-to-wear pieces, especially their Color Burst Vest ($88).
colorburst vest
Pair it with a dark tank, jeans and heels for a night out, or flats and a tee during the day - trés cute!

cascade ruffle vest
For work or play, you'll look smart and chic in Echo's Cascade Ruffle Vest. This rich-looking satin garment clocks in at a mere $42, comes in 4 fun colors, and will look great paired with anything from skinny jeans to a tight pencil skirt - just be sure to keep the bottom of your outfit more form-fitting as this top's fabulousness is in its voluminous bows and folds.

MUST HAVE!

echo touch gloves
Finally someone has solved the problem of texting in the cold! Echo presents the Echo Touch Gloves ($30), the solution to the issue of keeping in touch while still shielding our hands form the chilling winter winds! Made from special microfiber, the tips of the pointer and thumb fingers let you access everything on your touch screen phone while keeping your hands nice and toasty with the wool blend that makes up the rest of the glove. Thank you Echo for this long-overdue winter accessory - available in both regular and sports versions, and seven amazing colors!

With their beautiful clothing and accessories for cold weather, Echo will almost make you welcome the day the temperature drops ...almost!
